NLIC supports the information community by facilitating;
The development and utilization of information resources
Coordinating information technology networks
Adherence to standards established by the National Library, and
The co-ordination of legal deposit.
NLIC also advises the Minister on;
Improving library and archive services in Namibia
Changes to and implementation of the library and archive policies and legislation of Namibia
Appropriate levels of funding for government-funded libraries and archives, and
The most effective means of ensuring equality of access to information resources.
Funding
NLIC administers the Namibia Library and Information Fund for activities that supports the promotion and development of library and archive services, to the benefit of the people of Namibia.

Funding Considerations
NLIC applies certain considerations when evaluating funding applications.

Funding shall be subject to the financial position of the Library Fund.
Sponsorships may be awarded partly or in full.
NLIC may, from time to time, establish specific grants and invite applications according to specified guidelines or nominate specific institutions or individuals to receive such awards.
Requests from institutions in emergencies shall be dealt with on merit.
NLIC shall have the right to withdraw funding at any stage, if the recipient is in breach of the agreement.
Recipients shall be required to submit reports according to the relevant time frames and requirements defined by NLIC.
Criteria for funding shall be reviewed by NLIC as necessary.
